Aladdin is one of the classic Disney heroes: born and raised among a den of villains, yet brave, intelligent, clean, steadfast, and quick-witted, even if he happens to be a street thief at the moment. In short, he's a diamond in the rough.
The animators' portrayal of Aladdin is not typical of Disney; his eyes are large, like those of a Disney heroine, and the lineaments of his body are freer-flowing and more rounded than is usual for Disney heroes. The biggest difference from the norm is that, unlike most youthful Disney heroes, he's a doer rather than a passive character; in this respect he closely resembles Peter Pan from four decades earlier.
Aladdin is the main character of the Aladdin series, a teenager who falls madly in love with a princess (Jasmine), but there is a law that says that only a prince can marry a princess, so when Aladdin finds a magic lamp (containing Genie), he uses his first wish to become a prince. He eventually wins the princess when he defeats the evil Jafar and learns to accept who he is and stops trying to be something he's not. Aladdin eventually becomes an adventurer in the cartoon series and dozens of times he must again learn that first lesson: believe in yourself.
